This is a list of just some of the activities taking place in Abbotsford over the following week

MCMILLAN FUN FAIR

McMillan elementary (34830 Oakhill Drive) holds its annual fun fair on Friday, May 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. The event includes games, inflatables, a concession, an auction and more. Admission is $5 for children under five, and $10 for everyone else.

GERMAN SING-ALONG

A German sing-along takes place Saturday, May 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church (corner of Ware and Marshall). Refreshments to follow.  Everyone welcome. Info: Anneliese at 604-859-0822

RUN FOR WATER

The annual Envision Financial Run for Water is held Sunday, May 31 at Mill Lake Park to raise funds for clean-water projects in Yella, Ethiopia. The half marathon begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the 10 km run at 8:30 and the 5 km at 10 a.m. Info and registration: abbotsford.runforwater.ca

A-TONES TAKE BREAK

The A-Tones hold their final spring sing-along and jam session on Monday, June 1 before a break. Sessions resume on Monday, July 20. Sessions are from 1 to 3 p.m. on Mondays at the Abbotsford Social Activity Association drop-in centre, 2631 Cyril St. They are open to everyone and include pop songs from the past, gospel, folk, blues, country, standards, old-timers and requests. IMPACT AGM

Impact Youth and Family Substance Use Services holds its annual general meeting on Wednesday, June 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Edenvale Retreat Centre, 4330 Bradner Rd.  Info: 604-853-1766

WINE AND BEER FEST

The Abbotsford-Matsqui Rotary Club presents  its 21st annual Wine and Beer Festival and Silent Auction on Saturday, June 6 at Sevenoaks Shopping Centre, starting at 7 p.m. Proceeds go to the Adolescent Day Treatment Program through Fraser Health. Tickets are $40 and are available online at abbotsfordmatsquirotary.com or at Sumas Mountain Wines, Collections with Class or Sevenoaks customer service.

WALK FOR LIFE

The annual Walk for Life takes place Saturday, June 6 at Mill Lake Park to raise money for Hope for Woman Pregnancy Services and Advokate Life and Education Services. The event begins at noon with a family barbecue and festivities, with the walk/run starting at 1:30 p.m. Choose from either a 4 km or 8 km route. Info and registration: walkforlife.advokate.ca

CONTRACT BRIDGE

Friendship House Society holds contract bridge for those 55 years and older four times a week at the Abbotsford Recreation Centre, 2499 McMillan Rd. Cost is $2. Sessions are Tuesdays at 6:45 p.m. and Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 12:45 p.m. Info: Myrtle at 604-626-4746

FOOD SAFE CLASSES

Abbotsford Community Services offers Food Safe certificate and preparation classes for newcomers to Canada. The English as a Second Language classes are held Wednesday evenings from June 3 to July 15. FISHING FOREVER

Fishing Forever invites people with disabilities to visit the Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery (34345 Vye Rd.) on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a free fishing event. The lake is wheelchair-accessible, and all fishing equipment will be provided, along with a hot dog lunch and cake.
