Abbotsford Learning Plus presents two classes next week in its spring series. Both sessions run from 10 a.m. to noon at Abbotsford Recreation Centre (ARC), 2499 McMillan Rd. The topic on Tuesday, March 29 is “Developing the Community Health Centre.” The topic on Thursday, March 31 is “Echoes of an Ocean.” Cost per class is $5, plus the $2 ARC drop-in fee. A free lecture with Dr. Catherine Hickson takes place Wednesday, March 30 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at University of the Fraser Valley (33844 King Rd.), lecture theatre, B101. Hickson, who was an eyewitness to the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helens, will discuss the destructive regions of the planet and the earth forces that create such environments. Info:


Abbotsford Community Services offers a free citizenship preparation class, starting Friday, April 1 at 2420 Montrose Ave. Participants study Canada’s history, geography, economy, government and more to prepare for the knowledge test. The class runs every Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. until May 27. Registration is required by contacting Elise at 604-866-5970 or Free childcare is available.
