SLICE OF LIFE: June 2 to 9

This is a list of some of the activities in Abbotsford over the next week


McMillan Elementary (34830 Oakhill Drive) hosts a Family Fun Fair on Friday, June 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. The event includes carnival games, a climbing wall, face painting, pony rides, a Dance Party Zone, prizes, an obstacle course, inflatable horse races, and more. Gladwin Heights United Church hosts a Vintage Sale and Tea on Saturday, June 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday. The church has a goal of serving 150 cups of tea during the event. The first 50 people will be offered their tea in vintage collector teacups and can purchase them for a donation of $5 above the fee for the tea. The teas will be accompanied by United Church Women’s baking treats, and vintage items will be available for purchase.


The Abbotsford Lions Club holds a garage sale on Saturday, June 3 at 34809 Everett Drive. Funds raised go back into the community.


A Summer Barbecue Bash takes place Saturday, June 3 at Jubilee Hall (7989 Bradner Rd.). The event features dinner and a live band. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $15, including dinner and a drink, and are available at Wilway Lumber (28728 Fraser Hwy.) or online at


The annual Gutsy Walk, a fundraiser for the Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, is held Sunday, June 4 at Trethewey House (2313 Ware St.). Registration opens at 9 a.m., followed by a warmup at 10 a.m. and the walk itself at 10:15. Online registration is available at The Abbotsford walk is among 60 locations across Canada taking part in the event.


The Central Valley Academy of Music holds its year-end concert, titled Come Together, on Sunday, June 4 at 3 p.m. at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, 32315 South Fraser Way. The event, a tribute to the music of The Beatles, features academy students, instructors, ensembles, the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra, alumni and guest musicians. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.


The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Canada holds an event titled Fasting: The Solution to a World in Crisis on Sunday, June 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. Location is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 30635 Blueridge Drive. Admission is free and a complimentary dinner will be provided.


A symposium called Caregiving: A Balancing Act is held Friday, June 9 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Quality Hotel, 36035 North Parallel Rd. Topics include coping strategies and dealing with challenging situations. Cost is $50, including breakfast and lunch. Info and registration:


MEI Secondary (4081 Clearbrook Rd.) hosts its annual spring band concert on Tuesday, June 6 at 7 p.m. It will feature all MEI bands and a variety of music for all tastes. The concert is free.
