The Central Abbotsford Community School Society offers the Dove Self-Esteem Workshop from July 18-22. The day camp runs from 9 to 11 a.m. each day at a cost of $40. The workshop encourages girls ages 10 to 13 to love and be proud of who they are. The girls will complete participate in activities, games and group discussions Info:  604-853-2221


The Abbotsford Fish and Game Club holds its annual open house on Saturday, July 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4161 Lakemount Rd. Families and people of all ages are welcome. A free hot dog lunch, equipment and protective gear will be provided. A children’s trout fishing pond will be set up where participants can catch their own trout for supper. Info: 604-852-4101 or


Stories, rhymes, songs and stretches for kids take place at Mission Library, 33247 Second Avenue, on Friday, July 15 from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Also at Mission Library, a session for anime (Japanese animation) and crafts takes place Saturday, July 16 from 2:30 to 4 p.m.  Open to ages 12 to 18. The Canadian Cancer Society in Abbotsford is in need of volunteers to help dispatch drivers who are providing free rides for cancer patients to and from their appointments at cancer clinics. The dispatch position is done from volunteers’ homes, and the time commitment is flexible. Good interpersonal and organizational skills are required. Voice mail is provided.
