A local steel and automobile recycling facility is holding a fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 17 to raise funds for a couple whose five-year-old daughter is battling cancer.

On that day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., CCON Metals Inc. (34252 Industrial Way) invites citizens to drop off their scrap metals and donate the funds to the family of Greta Loewen.

As well, CCON will also donate $10 for every ton of metals that enter the yard that day.

People are also welcome to participate after that date by dropping off their scrap metals and saying the funds are for Greta’s fundraiser.

CCON Metals president Greg Dahl said the company would like to challenge businesses – such as electricians, plumbers and body shops – that have scrap metal as a by-product to participate.

Greta was diagnosed in mid-December with a rare form of bone cancer. Her parents are by her side during her treatment at B.C. Children’s Hospital and cannot work.

The funds will be used to support their day-to-day expenses as well as any medical treatment for Greta outside of Canada.
