The fourth annual Run for Rest, a fundraiser for Matthew’s House, takes place Sept. 23 in Abbotsford.

The fourth annual Run for Rest takes place Saturday, Sept. 23 to raise money for Matthew’s House in Abbotsford.

The five-kilometre run/walk goes from 10 a.m. to noon at Mill Lake Park.

For the second year in a row, the Running Room is sponsoring the event, lending support by taking care of all the online registration, providing race bibs and packages.

Running Room staff will also be on hand to warm up the runners before the event.

Choices Markets will also be there, providing water and snacks for participants.

Prizes will be awarded to the first- and second-place male and female runners, and all participants will go home with something special.

Wendy Jordan-Olive manages the Running Room in Abbotsford and has been involved with the Run for Rest from the beginning.

She said that runners in the community like to attend local events, especially if they are supporting local charity.

“Once I found out how Matthew’s House supports families here in Abbotsford and across B.C., I knew it was something that we needed to be a part of,” she said. “This run is a great fundraiser and has potential to grow.”

Those who register between Sept. 1 and 15 pay $10 and, after that, $15. Runners can register at mattshouse.ca/run.

“This run is all about families,” said Alan Cavin, director of resource development for Matthew’s House.

“We want to support the families who visit Matthew’s House but we also want this run to be accessible to anyone who wants to participate. That’s why we’ve chosen to keep the registration costs low.”

Those who want to make a further donation to Matthew’s House can do so on site on the day of the event or online at mattshouse.ca/donate.

“We really appreciate the support we get from this generous community,” Cavin said. “It makes such a difference to the families whose children visit Matthew’s House. That’s what this is all about.”

Matthew’s House provides quality care to children with complex care needs.
