The Abbotsford Islamic Centre hosts a forum called World War I: Through the Muslim Eyes on Saturday, Nov. 6.
The session runs from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, 32315 Souuth Fraser Way.
It looks at how Canadians often think of the First World War as an exclusively European war, with the Ottoman front being little more than a “side show.” But yet, three million Ottoman subjects lost their lives in war whose ramifications are still being felt today.
The Middle Eastern theatre of the First World War saw action between Oct. 29, 1914 and Oct. 30, 1918.
The presentation is led by Bassam Abun-Nadi, director of curriculum development at RECLAIM (Robust Education to Create Lasting Awareness, Impact and Meaning).

This is a new initiative that works with public and private education facilities to help them address the root causes of Islamophobia and anti-Muslim animus.
Abun-Nadi is an educator, researcher and community activist with more than seven years’ experience creating and delivering learning content, both in formal and informal settings.
At RECLAIM, he leads a team that works to accurately express the Muslim experience and to bring that experience into the classroom.
The Abbotsford session is also being held in collaboration with Bridging Gaps Foundation.
The presentation is open to everyone. For more information, send an email to adnan@reclaimcan.org.
