Mountain Elementary students and staff dug deep into their pockets earlier this month to help Abbotsford SPCA’s furry friends.

They began with a presentation from SPCA’s Allison Simpson about how the school could help. They brought money each day, in a friendly competition between “dollars for dogs” and “cash for cats” (with dogs narrowly winning).

There was also a game,” who cuddles this creature?” in which students paid a loonie to match each staff member to the critter on the other side of the board.

It was decided that their P.E. teacher, Mr. Hill most resembled his critter (his critter happens to be his new baby boy, Jasper).

As well, each day Mountain students were treated to visits from Saint John’s Ambulance therapy dogs, and PADS (Pacific Assistance Dogs Society) puppies in training.

Three young students baked cupcakes, sold them in their townhouse complex, and brought in $137.50 for animals. In only five days, Mountain raised over $1,500 for the SPCA, and students were reminded to show kindness and compassion to animals as well as people.
