The Fraser Valley Child Development Centre (FVCDC) in Abbotsford has announced the appointment of Shirley Wilson to the position of director of development.

Wilson will work with staff and the board of directors for both the FVCDC society and foundation as they expand their programs and services across Mission, Hope, Chilliwack and Abbotsford.

“This is an organization which has clearly demonstrated the best quality care for children with developmental needs,” Wilson said.

Wilson is a trustee with the Abbotsford board of education.

She was formerly the director of external relations for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and resigned to work with the Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation ,last September before taking on her new role with the FVCDC.

Executive director Karen McLean said that over the past decade, the centre has more than doubled the number of children it serves – from approximately 1,000 to more than 2,300 clients.

Staffing levels have grown from 45 to 110 as a result of the need for services for the development of children, she said.

These services include intervention, therapy groups, and education and training programs.
