A national charitable organization that supports moms and caregivers in crisis is hoping to expand its services in the Abbotsford area.

Mamas for Mamas, which started in Kelowna, provides ongoing support to individuals and families facing various poverty-related struggles.

Their partners include Murray Kia Abbotsford – located in the Fraser Valley Auto Mall – which will be donating a portion from each vehicle sold to Mamas for Mamas during its “Fill a Forte” event in May.

The goal of Mamas for Mamas is to provide a safe and respectful place where items and services can be provided at no cost through donating, trading and lending.

“By operating without traditional currency exchanging hands, we give the opportunity to those in a better financial position to donate directly to a mama in need and see firsthand the impact of their generosity,” states a message on the group’s Facebook page.

Among the services offered by the organization are social support, mental health support, counselling, women’s resources, the Mamas Karma Market, and homeless support.

There are also programs focused on nutrition, mothers in crisis, back to school, and teens in crisis.

For more information, visit mamasformamas.org or email yvr@mamasformamas.org. The group can also be found on Facebook and Instagram.
