Recently, students and staff at Colleen and Gordie Howe Middle School collected over 1,500 pounds of food for the Food Bank.
The collection was part of the “Free the Children” and “WE Day” initiatives at the school.
For every 100 pounds of food, staff committed to dressing up in a variety of wacky costumes, singing the announcement, accepting pies to the face and dying their hair.
Reaching the final goal of 1,500 pounds was to see Ryan Colbert, the school’s principal, taped to the flagpole over a lunch hour.
Student government members also volunteered an afternoon at the food bank, where they sorted the food and learned the distribution system.
