Menno Place recently hosted its first butterfly release celebration for seniors, families and staff in the facility’s one-acre landscaped courtyard.
More than 200 residents, family members and staff purchased butterflies for release on June 23 with all proceeds going to gardening programs.
The butterfly release celebration followed a site-wide memorial service where a quilt was unveiled and blessed.
The blue-and-white quilt, which has a cluster of butterflies in flight, will be used to cover a person after they have passed away, providing what is described as a dignified way for a resident to leave Menno Place for the last time.
The Butterfly Quilt was created by the Menno Positives Quilting Club.
Menno Place, located at 32945 Marshall Rd. in Abbotsford, is an 11-acre campus of care for 700 seniors in independent living, assisted living and residential care.
