This year, as part of the National Hike for Hospice, Abbotsford Hospice Society is uniting with other hospice palliative care organizations across Canada to raise funds and awareness.

The local event takes place Sunday, May 1 at Mill Lake Park.

On-site registration, located at the Bevan picnic site, begins at 10 a.m., with the hike starting at 10:30.

The event also features family entertainment that includes face painting, and music by Abby Jam. Hot dogs and drinks will be available for purchase.

This year’s honorary chair is professional golfer and businessman James Lepp.

Money raised at the event will go to Holmberg House, a 30,000 sq. ft. hospice located on the Campus of Care on Marshall Road adjacent to Abbotsford Regional Hospital.

The 10-bed facility, opening this month, provided end-of-life care to adults as young as 19.
