Gardening season starts with Seedy Saturday

Third annual seed swap and community event held at Edenvale Community Garden this Saturday.

As the weather heats up, have you started thinking about your garden? A local non-profit is holding its third annual seed swap and market this Saturday in west Abbotsford.

The Seedy Saturday event is organized by the Valley Permaculture Guild, a gardening non-profit in Abbotsford co-founded by Kayle Feenstra of Dragonlily Gardens.

There will be guest speakers and workshops on all things organic gardening. The diverse list of local vendors includes cheese producer Smits & Co., Tower Gardens, an organic rose grower, and Chillibabies, which makes cloth diapers and other items for children.

Many vendors will showcase seed, plant, and soil products.

"Bring your seeds and swap with others who've collected over the year, and even if you don't have any seeds to bring, there are always extras to give away," Feenstra says of the event.

There will be seed catalogues from Irish Eyes, Johnny's Select, and West Coast Seeds.

The community is invited to bring something for the potluck.

Seedy Saturday will be on March 15 at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Edenvale Community Garden and Education Centre (4460 Bradner Road.)

Interested organic vendors can contact organizers through valleypermacultureguild@gmail.com.
