TeenFest comes to Abbotsford Centre this Saturday

The Coast Capital Savings TeenFest comes to Abbotsford this Saturday, April 11 at Abbotsford Centre (33800 King Rd.) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The festival is for youth ages 12 to 18 and their families. Parking, admission and all activities are free.

Activities include a teen talent contest; performances by teen musicians, singers and bands; sports and gaming activities; dance performers on the main stage; and special guests.

There will also be 80 booths and five different areas to explore: Life and Education, Cool Stuff, Fashion and Beauty, Technology and Gaming, and Health and Wellness.

TeenFest was started about five years ago in Victoria by Ali and Wayne Berman, parents of three.

“It’s just a really fun, cool place to come hang out for the day,” Ali said.

“We moved to B.C. four years ago from Toronto and it was hard for us to find some of the resources we were looking for. Why not have a safe environment where they could learn about different activities and schools, about money, budgeting and investing for the future?”

The event has since expanded to Vancouver, Surrey, Nanaimo and now Abbotsford.

Booths at the event include those representing educational institutes, service groups, sports organizations, businesses and more.

The event is being hosted by Dakota Daulby, who has starred in Black Fly and the series Spooksville, iZombie and the fourth season of Oscar-winning executive producer Steven Spielberg’s Falling Skies.
