The Van Pelt family has donated $15,000 to Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre (ARH) in memory of wife and mother, Susan Van Pelt.
Arthur Van Pelt and his daughters presented the donation to executive director of the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation Vicki Raw and staff of the ARH oncology unit.
Susan died on January 17 of lung cancer due to smoking, despite having quit 23 years ago and maintaining a healthy lifestyle since then.
The money will be used by the oncology unit at ARH to fund two CADD pumps. These are intravenous pumps for dispensing pain medication either on demand by the patient or on a schedule.
The Van Pelt family is working towards saving others from Susan’s fate by lobbying government to severely restrict and ultimately stop the sale of tobacco in Canada. To learn more about their efforts, visit www.susansbattle.com.
