An Abbotsford woman, with the help of family and friends, served a traditional South Asian feast to the community on Saturday at the Salvation Army's Centre of Hope on Gladys Avenue.
Gurdip Dhaliwal typically holds the luncheon on New Year's Day but she moved the event this year after a drop in attendance in 2012. This time it was held on Saturday, April 27 to coincide with Vaisakhi, a Sikh celebration held every April.
Dhaliwal began serving the New Year’s Day feast – free to anyone in the community – in 2007.
She cooks and serves the entire meal – including samosas, curried chick peas, vegetables and rice pudding – with the help of family and friends.
