The Abbotsford Youth Commission commemorates the National Victims of Crime Awareness Week (April 10 to 16) with a Call to Action event on Friday, April 15.

The event runs from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Abbotsford Recreation Centre, 2499 McMillan Rd. It includes Taking Care of Others, an interactive workshop about preventing youth sexual exploitation. Using monologues, role plays and other activities, a group of three young adult facilitators will lead a discussion on what sexual exploitation is, who is involved, and how to prevent it.

Participants can also learn about local youth resources, as well as local, provincial and federal initiatives that support victims of sexual exploitation and other crimes.

“Many Voices, Many Paths” is the theme of this year’s National Victims of Crime Awareness Week.

For more information about the local event, call the Abbotsford Youth Commission at 604-854-8785.  For details about the national awareness week, visit the website victimsweek.gc.ca.
