Berrybeat Festival underway in downtown Abbotsford

Outdoor event takes place July 9 and 10 in the area of Montrose and Essendene avenues

Fresh produce and ethnic foods are just two of the highlights of the 35th annual Berrybeat Festival.

Make your way to Historic Downtown Abbotsford to celebrate the 35th annual Berrybeat Festival this weekend.

The free event runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 9 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 10 along Montrose and Essendene avenues in the old downtown core.

The festival celebrates the world’s most abundant berry-producing communities and commemorates Abbotsford’s rich farming heritage.

Legal Grounds Coffee House hosts this year’s annual strawberry pancake breakfast on both mornings.

The Aldergrove Credit Union Community Stage hosts free non-stop entertainment, including tributes to ABBA and Fleetwood Mac on Saturday, and a performance by the Phonix Dance Band on Sunday.

There will also be performances by Fiddlin’ Frenzy, Horizon, Korean drummers, Groove Daddy, the Johnson Brothers, Topaz, and the Genuine Jug Band.

The KidZone this year features a rock climbing wall for a minimum donation of $3 to Matthew’s House, a Fun Swing Carousel, a bouncy house, A-Star Carnival games, airbrushing with Chris Crash, Strike One for Fun, the BC Chicken Growers’ Association Education Barn and the Lego Adventure.

Festival goodies for sale inlcude shaved ice, lemonade, cotton candy, The Bannock Wagon, Thai, mini donuts, Indian and so much more.

Neufeld Farms will be there with strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and cherries, as well as True North Popcorn and Neufeld Farm Fresh Jams.

A farmer from the Okanagan will also be there with fresh peaches.
