Abbotsford 2016 BC Summer Games president Steve Carlton receives the BC Games flag from Penticton organizers on Feb. 28 to officially begin the countdown to the Games in Abbotsford this summer.

The countdown is officially on for the Abbotsford 2016 BC Summer Games.

On Feb. 28, the BC Games flag was officially passed to Abbotsford 2016 BC Summer Games President Steve Carlton.

In a presentation during the closing ceremony that took place at the South Okanagan Events Centre, Bill Bidlake, Penticton 2016 BC Winter Games President reminisced on the journey and acknowledged the fun to come for Abbotsford. With 136 Days to Go until the Abbotsford 2016 BC Summer Games, Steve accepted the flag and waved it proudly.

A number of board members from Abbotsford Games had the chance to travel to Penticton and see the Games in action. According to Carlton, the on-site learning will prove to be a valuable experience for the local organizing committee.

“Penticton was a gracious and outstanding host community. They have set the bar high,” Carlton said. “What a great moment for us, to officially receive the BC Games flag. Watching Penticton come to a close solidified the realization that we have a lot of work to do and that Abbotsford is now centre stage moving forward. We can’t wait to get back to Abbotsford and take all the learnings and feedback we have received here in Penticton and put them into action.”
