An annual fundraising auction at McClary Stockyards in Abbotsford is one of three such annual events for the Foodgrains Bank.

McClary’s Stockyard will be hosting a Make a Difference Sale on March 21, raising funds for Foodgrain Banks, which assists impoverished people around the globe.

The annual auction begins at 10 a.m. sharp at McClary’s stockyard on McClary Avenue off Sumas Way in Abbotsford. Up for bidding will be a variety of donated items, such as farm tools, pressure washers, toys and potatoes. Like last year, livestock will also be auctioned, such as cattle and a pig.

Also featured will be tickets and gift cards, including fishing trips, and Vancouver Canucks and Abbotsford Heat games.

Among the most popular items last year were large cheese wheels, which were purchased, then donated back to the auction, and sold again.

In total, nearly $120,000 was raised last year.

For every dollar raised by the McClary auction, the federal government matches it four to one.

The proceeds raised will be used by Foodgrains Bank to improve health care, nutrition and provide clean water to people in Third World nations.

Foodgrains Bank focuses on providing food assistance to communities internationally. To date, the organization has provided 1.1 million tonnes of food to people in need.
