An Abbotsford woman has been named the 2023 Care Provider of the Year in the “assisted living” category by the BC Care Providers Association.

Moyra Cameron will receive the honour at the 10th annual BC Care Awards event on Feb. 27 at the Fairmont Empress in Victoria.

The BC Care Provider of the Year Award is awarded to an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to quality, compassion and excellence in delivering or supporting the delivery of care to residents or clients.

Cameron has been involved with Hallmark on the Park (Baptist Housing) for the last 10 years. Her roles have included bus driver and taking on casual positions such as activity support, concierge and dining assistant.

Of her many roles, her passion lies in operating the Hallmark bus, providing shuttle service for residents.

On a weekly basis, she takes the residents to recreational outings such as shopping, dining and entertainment.

Twice a week, she drives residents to appointments, to visit their spouses in long-term care and to go on shopping trips.

In the activities department, Cameron – who has exceptional crafting skills – conducts class such as card-making.

She also organizes games and gatherings.

“Moyra personalizes her attention and care to meet the personal needs of residents. Her deep understanding of residents fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment for all to participate,” reads a statement on the website for the BC Care Providers Association.

The website states that Cameron is “approachable, reliable and caring.”

“Regardless of the role, Moyra brings compassion and care to residents, knowing their specific preferences and needs.

“She is committed to always lending a helping hand whenever needed to ensure the well-being and enjoyment of residents in the Hallmark community.”

BC Care Provider of the Year is awarded in two other categories – home health and long-term care – besides assisted living.

The BC Care Awards are also presented in the categories of Family Champion, Workplace of the Year, and the Ed Helfrich Long Service Excellence Award.
