An Abbotsford resident has been named as one as the B.C. winner in the CarStar Collision and Glass' Shining Star Contest.
The contest recognizes and rewards Canadians who go above and beyond the call of duty to help and support friends, family members and their communities.
Nominations were accepted from June to August followed by online voting, which narrowed the field.
A panel of judges then selected five winners from across Canada.
Abbotsford's Shelly Raspberry was among the five and was recognized for helping to raise $50,000 in 2014 and coordinating a dream wedding for a terminally ill friend who had only weeks to live.
She is also passionate about fighting cystic fibrosis as her niece battles the genetic lung disease. Raspberry consistently donates her time and money to Cystic Fibrosis Canada (CFC).
Each of the winners received $2,500 for themselves and $2,500 to donate to a charity of her choice. Raspberry selected CFC.
