Abbotsford’s original Farm and Country Market (AFCM) is moving to Jubilee Park starting this Saturday, July 27.
The outdoor market has been located for 13 years at the intersection of Montrose Avenue and George Ferguson Way.
Ann Friesen, president of the AFCM’s board of directors, said the re-location of the market is necessary due to the pending re-development of the old Clayburn Brick Plant site.
She said the move comes after much consultation with the City of Abbotsford and other stakeholders.
Friesen said the market has long enjoyed its downtown location and has greatly appreciated the support of its neighbours – most notably, Trinity Memorial United Church and Ann Marie’s Cafe – making the decision to move a challenge.
“The Jubilee Park space will be different for us, yes, but it will also be a fun and exciting place offering lots of new opportunities,” she said.
“It’s undergoing major renovation, so there’s parking, green space for relaxing, and a brand new kids’ playground. We’re looking forward to welcoming our market vendors and customers to this new venue.”
Market managers Susan Trithardt and Jennifer Trithardt-Tufts said the AFCM has a full complement of farm and craft vendors, plus live entertainment, lined up for the new location.
The hours will remain the same – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday until the end of October. Jubilee Park is located at 2552 McCallum Rd.
The AFCM was first established in 2003. It is a member of the BC Association of Farmers’ Markets, and is operated by the non-profit Abbotsford Farm and Country Market Society.
