An Abbotsford eye doctor has been named the 2016 Young Optometrist of the Year by the B.C. Doctors of Optometry.
The award for Dr. Harbir Sian was announced during the organization’s annual conference on Feb. 21.
The award recognizes optometrists who have demonstrated exemplary leadership skills in their profession and contributed to the visual welfare of the public and their community.
Sian completed his doctor of optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry and opened his practice, Highstreet Eyecare Center, in Abbotsford in 2013.
Passionate about public education and community engagement, Sian started his own blog to inform the community about eye care and, in 2015, volunteered in Colombia to provide eye exams and glasses to over 2,000 people.
He also provides presentations to high school and elementary school students about the importance of community involvement through the Association of South Asian Professionals.
