An Abbotsford event in support of rebuilding efforts at Pines Bible Camp and Retreat Centre near Grand Forks raised $14,000 last Tuesday.

Blake and Raelene Chursinoff organized a hot dog barbecue at Mountain Park Community Church after many of the camp’s buildings were destroyed by a freak windstorm on July 20.

The site also experienced a tragedy with the death of a young boy who was injured after a tree fell on the cabin he was in.

The Chursinoffs felt compelled to help because both had attended Pines Bible Camp as kids and later worked there, including a three-year stay when Blake served as program director until February 2011.

The couple plan to hold other fundraisers, with a goal of collecting $100,000 for the cause.
