This Saturday, Abbotsford cops will be plunging into frigid waters for a good cause.

They will be jumping into the cold Pacific waters at Kitsilano Beach for the 2018 Vancouver Polar Plunge for Special Olympics BC.

The Abbotsford Police Department is also welcoming members of the community to join them and check out the colourful costume contest, activities and display of law enforcement vehicles. Money raised will support the Special Olympics’ life-changing year-round sports programs for people with intellectual disabilities across B.C..

“Throughout the year, the Abbotsford Police Department supports Special Olympics BC through basketball tournaments, the Law Enforcement Torch Run, the APD Police Challenge Run and the ‘Tip a Cop’ fundraiser at Red Robin,” APD chief Bob Rich said in a statement. “The Polar Plunge is another fantastic opportunity for our officers and staff to have fun with these athletes and to empower them through sport.”

The opening ceremonies for the event start at noon.
