Abbotsford church donate sweaters for refugees

Local Lutherans send 107 sweaters to Jordan for displaced Syrians

Members of Abbotsford's Trinity Lutheran Church helped support a national effort that saw 70,000 sweaters donated to Syrian refugees.

The local church collected, sorted and boxed 107 sweaters for shipment to the Canadian Lutheran World Relief's (CLWR) warehouse in Winnipeg recently. The boxes were shipped by Blackwood Home Hardware.

The sweater drive was supported by congregations across Canada, and as a result, thousands of people in the Za'atari refugee camp in Jordan will receive the clothing.

The men, women and children in the camp have fled terrible violence in Syria, often with few personal possessions, and many are now living in temporary shelters without sufficient warm clothing, according to a CLWR press release.

Families are receiving sweaters in bundles of five, in an assortment of sizes, which can be exchanged if one doesn't fit.
