Abbotsford architect David Tyrell has been named as one of 14 finalists for the Arthur Erickson Memorial Award hosted by Western Living Magazine.

The honour is among the categories in the Designers of the Year Awards, judged by some of Canada’s foremost designers and architects. Winners will be announced in September.

The Arthur Erickson Memorial Award is presented to an emerging architect or designer in Western Canada.

Tyrell was invited to enter the competition after a Western Living editor saw an online posting of a 10,000-square-foot home that he had designed in Kelowna.

That home earned Tyrell top honours in the 2011 Tommie Awards, hosted by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association.

He was also named a finalist for the 2012 Canadian Wood Council Design Award.

Tyrell opened David Tyrell Architecture 13 years ago, with offices in Abbotsford and White Rock.

He has a bachelor of architecture from the University of Southern California.
