Local farmer Masa Shiroki was in the fields on Monday, planting crops on Abbotsford's only rice farm with the help of volunteers.
Shiroki will eventually turn the rice into locally-sourced sake – Japanese rice wine – through his company Artisan Sakemaker.
This will be the fourth year that Shiroki has planted rice on land near Highway 1 and Sumas Way.
