Vancouver businessman Neil Currie and his partner cut a deal with infamous Dragon Kevin O’Leary in season four of the hit reality show Dragon's Den.
The deal eventually fell through but their company, Vantagewire.ca, an online real-time stock quote website, continues to thrive and keeps stock watchers abreast of what is happening in the market.
Fast forward to today and Currie, who hails from Abbotsford, continues to forge ahead and develop online businesses involving the stock trade.
His latest creation is Stockpools.com. It’s a fantasy stock trading game where it’s free to join.
“This is for anybody to use, you could be the veteran trader or someone who wants to learn a little about how the stock market works,” says Currie, “and understand the risks and rewards and that it isn’t about losing your shirt or your house...we want to make it fun, it is fun!”
Players can win a variety of prizes on the site.
Currently Stockpools dot com deals primarily with metal and mineral stocks but each user does have the ability to create their own pool that can focus on any sector as long as the company is publically traded in North America. Stockpools lists 100 publically traded companies in 10 different sectors and generates revenue by selling listings on their site to those companies.
“If what we do helps people get interested in the market then we’ve done our part to help buoy up investment in Canada,” said Currie.
