Martha Funk, beloved wife of Pastor Bill Funk, passed into the presence of her Lord on Friday, January 9, 2004, at the age of 84.
Martha was born on August 31, 1919, in their farm home near Whitemouth, Manitoba, to Louis and Helen Paschke. She was from a large family of fourteen children, ten sisters and four brothers. Martha grew up in Morris, Manitoba, where her family moved to when she was a child. She was baptized there as a teenager, in the Red River by the Emmanuel Baptist Church. She is survived by an extended family of over two hundred and fifty nieces and nephews.
She was married to Bill Funk on September 30, 1941, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was an accomplished soloist and sang in the choirs of the churches where they attended. In 1953, when her husband went into the ministry, she was a faithful pastor's wife and served at his side for the fifty years of his ministry. She was always willing to help out as a soloist for weddings and funerals whenever it was requested.
Martha had two major surgeries in 1997, which left her weak and even handicapped for the last three years. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 62 years, Bill and their four children. Norm, the oldest and his wife Shirley; their two children, Charles and Lisa and her husband, Campbell Barnard. The second son, Mel and his wife Sharon; their four daughters, Lara and her husband, Jeff Breuls; Kirsten and her husband, David Bradshaw; Sharalee, at home and Kaelyn, who is already with the Lord. The third son, Bruce and his wife, Jane; their two children, Corrie and Ryan. Their only daughter Dawn and her husband Michael Enns and their daughter Brianna. There are also six great-grandchildren; Joshua, Zachary, Elizabeth, Emma, Sarah and Rachel.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at 1:30 pm. at the Abbotsford Baptist Church on Busby Street in Abbotsford. Pastor Roger McClelland officiating. Interment will be at Musselwhite Cemetery, for family only.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to missionaries Phil and Roma Morris through the Abbotsford Baptist Church. Church will receipt donations.
