October 24, 1932 - March 2, 2024

Helen was born on October 24th, 1932, in Nikolaifeld, Russia (Ukraine). Her life was extremely difficult growing up in a time of strife and famine during Stalin's regime. Helen's mother passed away when she was only 5 years old, and Helen was raised by her older sister.

When the German army pulled out of Russia during WWII, the Rempel family also withdrew ending up in a refugee camp. The Rempel family was sponsored to come to Canada in 1948 and after landing in Halifax, they traveled to Saskatchewan to live with relatives. Shortly after, the family moved to the village of Greendale, B.C.

Helen met George Isaac in Greendale while attending the local Mennonite church. They were married in 1952. Helen and George had 4 children while in Greendale and in 1963 they moved to Vancouver where George was working.

George retired in 1989 and Helen and George moved to their home in Abbotsford where she lived until her final move to Menno Terrace. Helen passed away peacefully on March 2, 2024, at the age of 91.

Helen is survived by her four children, nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren as well as her sister Gretel and brother Henry.

A memorial service will be held on May 4th, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Eben-Ezer Mennonite Church, 2051 Windsor St, Abbotsford, BC
