It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Franz Wiens on July 8, 2009. Born on December 24, 1938 to Johann & Lena Wiens, he lived his childhood and youth in Paraguay. In December 1961, he was baptized in the Mennonite Church. In June 1962 he married Leni Schellenberg. He is survived by his wife, Leni and their three sons Rudy (Cheryl), Erwin (Jeannette) and Ernie (Jodi). He was predeceased by his son Victor. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Franz immigrated to Canada with his family in 1974 and worked to support his family until retirement in 2003. He enjoyed his retirement fishing on the river, doing puzzles, playing pool and spending time visiting with friends.
Franz's health deteriorated to the point of hospitalization on May 24. He had a very difficult operation and never was able to return home but passed away peacefully at the hospital.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, July 15 at 9:00 am followed by a service at 10:00 am at Clearbrook Mennonite Church, 32027 Peardonville Road.
