Charles Gilbert "Bert" LANCASTER

May 8, 2005

Charles Gilbert "Bert" Lancaster passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 8, 2005 at the age of 89 in his home in Matsqui.

He is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by Lynda (Robin) Dingwell, Marnie (Len) Rose, Gillian (Gary) Fast, Janet (Bill) Cathcart, daughter-in-law Debbie Lancaster, brother-in-law Ian Sibbald, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one sister Agnes Shogren. He is also remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, special friend Dorothy Curtin and loyal canine companion "Charlie".

He was predeceased by his wife Bette, daughter Charlene, and son Gib.

As a Matsqui pioneer, Bert sought to improve and build his community through service on the Matsqui Ratepayers Association, Farm Forum, Police Commission, Matsqui Credit Union, and Camp Maclanlin Girl Guide Camp. He was well-known in the community for his creative writing in his weekly column "Looking Back" and for his spectacular Christmas light display.

For the past few years, Dad’s quality of life was greatly enhanced by the special love and care provided by his grandsons Sean and Scott Cathcart. In addition, a number of others went the "extra mile" for our Dad and we greatly appreciate their efforts and kindnesses.

Memories of Dad will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2005 at 2:00 pm in the garden at Bert’s farm, 33906 Harris Road, Matsqui.

In memory of Bert, donations may be made to the CNIB.

"Bye lassies and laddies."
