Audrey Johanna Groenwold

October 18, 1945 - March 21, 2024

We are greatly saddened to announce the passing of Audrey on March 21, 2024, with family by her side.

We are comforted to know that she is now in Heaven with her Lord and Saviour.

Audrey was born on October 18, 1945, in Driebergen, Holland. She was the 7th of 9 children born to John and Audrey Van Domselaar. In 1953 the entire family immigrated to Canada and settled in Edmonton, Alberta.

Audrey excelled in school and loved her early career as a Secretary to the Alberta Sturgeon Health District and Director of Nursing at the University of Alberta. When Audrey was 14, she met Harry at their Church's Young people's group in Edmonton, AB. They were married on July 2, 1965, and in 1967 moved to Edson AB.

In 1970 they purchased the historic Groenwold family farm in Rosevear, AB, and lived there for many years, and where Audrey taught kindergarten at the Peers school. Their children were all born in Alberta, and in 1976 the family moved to Abbotsford, BC, which would become their home and community.

Audrey had a great faith. She loved and served her Lord at her various churches as an organist, Calvinette leader, Sunday school teacher, Youth leader, Catechism teacher, and Caregiver. She was also chair of the ACS Woman's Circle. She served as the first secretary at the Abbotsford Christian School for many years. Later her love for the medical field led her to work as a Medical Office Assistant for Dr. Chris Wallace.

Many happy years were spent with family and friends camping in Westbank on Lake Okanagan, fishing at Loon Lake and Horse Lake, spending time at the cabin in Shuswap, and snowbirding in Palm Springs. She also enjoyed travelling and was blessed to visit many countries of the world.

Audrey loved her family dearly and was proud being Harry's wife and partner for 58 years, mother to their children and Oma to their grandchildren and great grandchildren. The grandchildren and great grandchildren gave her so much joy. She will be greatly missed by them all.

Audrey is survived by her loving husband Harry; & Scott and Carolyn; Scotty and Kayla with Chase and Autumn; Megan and Adrian with Abigail and Jacob; Matthew; and Zachary; & Danette with Luke; & Bryce and Jessica with Emma and Josh.

She will also be missed by her sister Margaret and brothers Dick (Marilyn) and Gary (Carmen) as well as many nieces and nephews in BC, Alberta & the USA.

We thank the doctors, nurses, and all other staff at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital, specifically Cheam ACE unit and The Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission for their kind, compassionate and loving care.

The celebration of her life will be held on Friday, April 12th at 2 pm at Living Hope Christian Reformed Church at 34631 Old Clayburn Road, Abbotsford BC.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation in her memory to The Abbotsford L.I.F.E. Recovery Association or the Salvation Army.
