The Vimy Ridge memorial was held in Abbotsford last night.

Hundreds of veterans, cadets, dignitaries, politicians and members of the public gathered at Thunderbird Square on Thursday evening as part of a candlelight vigil marking Vimy Ridge Day.

The event, hosted by the Abbotsford Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, saw veterans and community members place candles in memory of the sacrifice of those at Vimy Ridge.

The battle of Vimy Ridge began April 9, 1917 in France during the First World War. The Canadian Corps successfully battled the Germans to gain control of the strategically valuable ground.
