A substance believed to be bear spray was accidentally released as a man was exiting a BC Transit Bus in Abbotsford today (Wednesday), but nobody was injured.

The incident occurred at about 11:45 a.m. at the bus loop outside Sevenoaks Shopping Centre.

Abbotsford Police Sgt. Judy Bird said a man in a wheelchair was leaving the bus when a small amount of the substance was discharged.

“We don’t believe it was done on purpose,” she said.

The bus was aired out and is back on the road, Bird said.
