The Abbotsford School District has launched a text message alert system for parents and guardians.

The system, using a program called SchoolMessenger, was launched on Tuesday, with families receiving a text message to their designated mobile device with the following message:

From: 978-338

Abbotsford School District message. Reply Y to confirm, HELP 4 info. Msg & data rates may apply. Msg freq varies. schoolmessenger.com/smsca”

Families could then opt in by replying with a “Y” or “Yes” to the school district’s number, 978338, or opt out by replying “Stop” to one of the school district’s messages.

Parents or guardians who did not receive a message should notify their children’s school of the appropriate mobile phone number to receive the updates.

The school district says SchoolMessenger is compliant with Student Privacy Pledge, a set of guidelines for maintaining students’ and their families’ privacy.
