The University of the Fraser Valley’s (UFV) Exploring Equity Speaker Series returns with a discussion about the current state of hockey and what it says about Canada.

Brett Pardy will present “Hockey and Canadianess” at Abbotsford campus on April 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in building B room B101. Entry is by donation to support the UFV-SUS food bank.

Pardy is an instructor in media and communications studies at UFV. He is also the senior editor of Hockey in Society, a website that explores critical social issues in hockey. His academic research focuses on the emotional impact of media on learning and unlearning conceptions around racism, masculinity, community and mental health.

The Rotary Club of Abbotsford Sumas and UFV’s Community Health and Social Innovation Hub (CHASI) host speakers to advance equity in the community. This is the sixth installment of the series.

UFV notes that due to construction the venue accessibility is less straightforward for those wishing to use an elevator. There will be staff to guide attendees as they enter the building. Any questions or concerns can be directed to chasi@ufv.ca.
