An Abbotsford site is among 27 across B.C. that have been added to the provincial government’s $10-a-day childcare program.

Eagle’s Nest Early Learning Centre, operated by Archway Community Services, offers 90 spaces – 12 for infants/toddlers, 42 for ages 2.5 to kindergarten and 36 for school-aged kids.

The centre is located at Irene Kelleher Totí:ltawtxw Elementary on Eagle Mountain.

Spaces in the program reduce the average cost of child care from $1,120 a month for full-time care to $200 a month for the same service.

Abbotsford-Mission MLA Pam Alexis said the program is “life changing” for families.

“Ninety more spaces being converted into $10-a-day childcare spaces will make such a huge difference for people here in Abbotsford,” she said.

The province announced on Thursday (March 28) that a total of 930 spaces across B.C. were being added to the program in March and April, bringing the total now available to 15,300.

The new spaces were added in communities that do not yet have any or have a low number compared to the region’s population density.

The goal is to provide 20,000 such spaces by spring 2026.

Two other Abbotsford locations were previously approved for the program: First Step Dayare Centre and New Beginnings Daycare Program.

Parents who want to enrol their child in a $10-a-day centre must contact an approved centre directly to learn about their availability and applications process.
