UC Earth Stewards hosts a fundraiser in Abbotsford on Sunday, April 7 that features gardening guru Brian Minter as the featured speaker.

Proceeds from the event at Trinity Memorial Church (33737 George Ferguson Way) go toward the purchase of trees for planting in Abbotsford parks. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Minter, a recipient of the Order of Canada, is well known from his magazine and syndicated newspaper columns as well as TV and radio programs, notably CBC Radio.

He is a master gardener and a bachelor of arts graduate from the University of B.C., as well as the author of the Canadian bestseller Brian Minter’s New Gardening Guide – Fresh Approaches for Canadian Gardeners.

Minter and his wife, Faye, operated the world-famous Minter Gardens for many years. They now concentrate their energies on the Minter Country Garden Store in Chilliwack.

Shawn Gurney, Abbotsford’s new manager of urban forestry, will also be at the fundraiser and will discuss the proposed new tree bylaws and urban forestry plan.

There will be a question period, refreshments, and prize draws. All donations over $20 are tax-deductible.

UC Earth Stewards is a volunteer organization that has been raising funds for tree planting since 2019. To date, the group has provided funding for 900 trees that have been planted at Willband Creek Park and Ellwood Park.

Advance tickets are $20 and are available by emailing donald15@telus.net or calling Don Strangway at 778-808-5835. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.
