Local optometrists Drs. Harbir Sian and Harleen Takhar and the staff of Highstreet Eyecare have been acknowledged as gold-level fundraisers by Optometry Giving Sight.

The clinic was recognized for their efforts during the 2017 World Sight Day Challenge, which raises funds for eye exams and glasses for people in under-served communities across the world.

This helps people who are blind or vision-impaired and in urgent need of eye care.

Sian and staff raised funds in October and donated a portion of eye exam fees to the cause, receiving a gold award for their efforts.

The World Sight Day Challenge has been held for more than 10 years and is run by the global charity Optometry Giving Sight.

“The World Sight Day Challenge is a great way to help support the millions of people who don’t have access to the basic eye care that we can take for granted,” Sian said. “We look forward to contributing even more next year.”

The organization says more than 600 million people in the world are blind or vision-impaired because they do not have access to an eye exam or glasses.

They have funded almost 120 projects in 39 countries since 2007.
