Wildfires this summer resulted in millions of dollars in damages and loss across B.C. The Abbotsford Legion recently contributed to relief efforts.

Members of the Abbotsford Legion contributed to wildfire relief efforts over the summer.

Executive members Sharon Rathbone, Dave Kennard and Heinz Kempf loaded their private vehicles with clothes, shoes, dishes, and other items – donated by local members, family and friends – and transported them to Ashcroft for people who had lost their homes.

Two weeks later, Rathbone took another load in her car and dropped off more items.

On Sept. 27, Rathbone and Kennard drove a three-tonne rental truck to Ashcroft with furniture such as love seats, a complete bedroom suite, dishes, coffee tables, lamps, clothes, and winter jackets, boots, toques and gloves. U-Haul truck rentals gave them a 20 per cent discount and 750 travel kilometres as a donation to the cause.

Three members from the Ashcroft Legion visited the Abbotsford Legion to say thank you to all who assisted with the donations.

A donation of $5,000 was also made and will be added to a sum being collected from the branches across B.C. and the Yukon.
