Have you ever been to Abbotsford in Australia?

It turns out there are two.

Abbotsford in the New South Wales province is a suburb in the inner west of Sydney. It’s located about 10 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district and sits on a peninsula.

The city took its name from Abbotsford House in the United Kingdom, and was first known by its Aboriginal name Bigi Bigi.

The population of Abbotsford, NSW is 5,373 according to the 2016 census.

There is another Abbotsford in Australia and is a suburb of Melbourne located two kilometres northeast of that city’s central business district.

Located in the province of Victoria, some well known local landmarks include the Skipping Girl Sign, Dights Falls, the former Collingwood Town Hall, Victoria Park Football Stadium and Abbotsford Convent.

A steady stream of migration since the 1980s has made Abbotsford home to Melbourne’s largest Vietnamese community. So much so that Victoria Street is also known as Little Saigon. It is best known for its exceptional varieties of Vietnamese food, which draws tourists to the area from across Melbourne.

Abbotsford is home to Carlton and United Breweries, the company which produces Victoria Bitter and Foster’s Lager. The malt smell of brewing often fills the surrounding area. Visitors can see the beer making process at the Carlton Brewhouse centre and tour the brewery. Smaller breweries such as Moon Dog Craft Brewery and Bodriggy Brewing Co are also located in Abbotsford.
