VIDEO: Abbotsford hand dancer shows off skills

‘Handraving’ video has drawn interest online for unique movements

One Abbotsford man’s unique hand movements set to rave music has drawn interest on YouTube.

The video, entitled “Crazy Abbotsford Handraving”, sees the dancer perform several complicated and advanced hand dancing motions.

It was uploaded on March 18, 2012 and has garnered 259 views in that time.

YouTube commenters seem to be impressed by the dancing.

“This kids floorworthy,” states Justin Moroz.

Hand dancing is a form of swing dance that can be traced back to the 1920s. It’s main influencing dances include the Lindy Hop and the Jitterbug.

In 1993, the Smithsonian Institution recognized Hand Dance as an American Art Form, and the Smithsonian exhibit led to the establishment of the National Hand Dance Association.

The particular hand dancing or hand raving in this video is more associated with the EDM movement in recent years.
