VIDEO: Abbotsford elevator praised on YouTube

Sevenoaks Shopping Centre elevator has been around since 1975

An Abbotsford elevator located inside Sevenoaks Shopping Centre has made it onto the popular Vancity Elevators YouTube page.

The channel, which boasts over 1,500 subscribers and has collected over 1 million views, shared a video of the elevator on its on page on Nov. 27.

The video notes that it is a Montgomery hydraulic elevator and was installed in 1975. The owner of the account also titles the video as “EPIC MOTOR!!”, indicating that the classic purr of its motor was pleasing to the user.

A YouTube user with the screen name “Dan TX” seemed to agree with the sounds produced by the elevator and commented “Beautiful startup!”.

Sevenoaks Shopping Centre was built in 1975, so if the information regarding the elevator is correct, that lift has been in operation for close to 45 years.

The Montgomery Elevator Company was founded in 1892 and based in Moline, Illinois. The company was acquired by the Finnish based KONE international engineering and service company in 1994. At the time of the sale, Montgomery was the fourth largest elevator company in the U.S.

One of Montgomery’s claims to fame is the unusual elevator tram in the St. Louis Gateway Arch.

The Sevenoaks elevator is located in the southwest region of the mall, near Chatters Hair Salon.
