Abbotsford owner’s dog to be featured on Jones Soda bottle

Yogi, 10, set to appear on the company’s beverages in the near future

The next time you take a sip from a refreshing bottle of Jones Soda you might be staring at the mug of a local owner’s dog.

Abbotsford resident Gilles DeCruyenaere’s dog Yogi has been selected as a model for a Jones Soda label.

DeCruyenaere submitted a photo to the company about a year ago, as the brand regularly asks for photo submissions to be featured on their bottles. Users are encouraged to post photos to the company’s online gallery, with the company reserving the right to potentially use the image on a bottle. Staff members and fans can vote on images online.

He was then sent a letter by the company stating that the picture of Yogi was selected.

“Congratulations! Your photo has achieved the goal of all photos everywhere: to be selected for a Jones Soda Label!”, the letter reads. “Your photo was part of the one per cent of all submitted photos that have been chosen to be on a bottle for the world to see.”

The company attached a label for DeCruyenaere to keep and encouraged him to continue submitting photos.

Yogi, a Pomeranian, was nine when the photo was snapped, but is now 10 years old. DeCruyenaere added that he was not paid for the usage of the photo.

“No money, but that’s ok - it’s cool to know it’s going to be out there,” he told The News.

It’s unclear if Yogi’s photo will be on several flavours or only the pineapple cream soda flavour that Jones Soda sent to DeCruyenaere. There are currently 15 different flavours offered by the company.

Jones Soda is based in Seattle now, but was originally founded in Vancouver in 1995. The company is known for its unique flavours such as blue bubblegum, green apple and fufu berry.

The beverages can be found at Save-On-Foods in the Abbotsford area.
