Abbotsford’s Katie Korstrom played a big factor in the U16 White Rock Renegades recent national fastpitch championship win.

The Yale Secondary student led the Renegades both on the pitching mound and at the plate in Sunday’s 3-2 championship win over Ontario’s Vaughn Vikings in Winnipeg at Sunday’s final.

The Renegades beat the Vikings 3-2 to clinch the title, and Korstrom scored the winning run, and pitched three solid innings on the mound to earn the most valuable player of the championship round award.

She also hit a two-run home run in the semifinal against the Tri-City Titans on Saturday to help White Rock win 2-0, and also earned a shutout win on the mound in the quarter-final game against Winnipeg earlier on Saturday.

The Renegades went a perfect 9-0 at the tournament, and Korstrom batted .545 with one home run and 17 runs batted in, as well as picking up three wins and 27 strikeouts in six appearances pitching. Korstrom returns to the Yale Softball Academy this fall.
