Yale Secondary’s Jay Hildebrand has signed with the Columbia Bible College Bearcats women’s basketball team.

The Bearcats made the announcement on the program’s social media on Wednesday (May 10).

Hildebrand was a key part of the Yale Lions senior girls basketball team for the past several years and was named a first team all-star at the 2023 BC School Sports 4A girls basketball provincial championships earlier this year.

“Jay has had great success on the court at the high school and club levels and I’m excited for her to bring her skill set to our team this year,” stated Bearcats head coach Taylor Claggett. “She is a great student, person and teammate who will enhance our team in many ways.”

Hildebrand thanked her coaches and family on her on personal social media.

“A special thanks to all the coaches at VK and BC Bounce that have helped me along the way,” she stated. “And thank you to all my family members that have supported me, especially my grandpa (may he rest in peace).”

Hildebrand and the Lions finished with a 7-2 record in the Eastern Valley Athletic Association’s 4A regular season standings, good for second place. Yale went on to advance to the EVAA finals in the playoffs, but fell to Walnut Grove. Hildebrand was named a tournament all-star.

Yale qualified for the 4A provincials and opened with wins over Dr. Charles Best and Seaquam before once again losing to Walnut Grove. The Lions then lost to Burnaby Central in the third place game to finish fourth overall.

Hildebrand and the Lions also won the senior girls division at the 2022 and 2021 Abbotsford Police City Basketball Tournament. She was named player of the game for Yale in the 2021 title game.

The Bearcats season in the Pacwest conference typically runs from November in February. CBC is aiming to collect a win for the first time since the 2017-18 season. The club has gone 0-54 over the past three seasons.
